Camping/canoeing at Payson Lakes

Every year we go on a "just us family" camping trip. It's nice to get away from the t.v., the iphones, the laptops and just be together. There are no distractions and no other friends or family for us to focus our attention on.
It's just us.
And we are "forced" in a good way to to enjoy each other.
It's a time when TJ and I have to have good teamwork. Putting a campsite together and everything that goes along with it is not easy. It takes the two of us to make it happen.
And it's a time that requires us to make the fun and no one else.
So all day friday I put the gear together and did the food shopping. I wanted to be ready go once TJ got home from work. When he got home we loaded the cars and put the canoe (that we borrowed from the Carpenters A.K.A. scout master) on top the car. It took some time and we got a later start. Our plan was to go camping up American Fork canyon at Tibble Fork. We love it there and we like to play at the resevoir too. We were kinda worried about the water levels in the river though. It's been a crazy year with flooding and snow melt off. Once we got there we checked the 4 campsites only to find out they were all FULL! WHAT?!! I was heartbroken. It was so sad because the girls were so excited all day to go camping. TJ and I didn't know what to do. It was 8:30pm and the Lexi and Chloe had already fallen asleep in the car. We decided to drive home, sleep in our beds and first thing in the morning drive to Payson Lakes and see if there was a spot there. On the way home Tallie had a lump in her throat as she told me she knew camping would never happen. She was trying so hard to hold back her tears. I wanted to cry. However I think the fact we slept at home that night was a blessing in disquise because Lexi woke up in the morning screaming and constipated and I had to chip her poop out (sad and gross I know). Oh and all night she was up screaming and would not sleep. What a nightmare that would have been had we been stuck in a tent with her while it poured rain outside the tent?? Glad we were at home. Once we got to Payson lakes Lexi threw up all over herself and her carseat. I was covered just by getting her out of the car. Pretty cool to start a camping trip with no showers covered in throw up. Luckily she seemed fine and happy after that. We found the perfect spot (away from rushing rivers) and set up camp. After some lunch we went over to the lake and put the canoe in.

It took a bit of time to get the canoe off the car so the kids were grumpy. At least Lexi was happy rubbing dad's deoderant on her lips like chapstick.
The girls were pretty timid at first to get into the canoe but they came around and eventually thought it was fun. I loved it because it was very peaceful and serene and something we never get to do.

TJ was out on the canoe alone and actually tipped himself. Good thing I wasn't with him :)

It was a fun trip minus the fact we missed a day and a night. Lexi was a bit harder this year. 18 months is not really a camping friendly age. She wanted to go off into the woods every two seconds. It will be a great memory.
