There have been times we have been super diligent in reading our scriptures together as a family and other times not. I just really want my kids to learn the stories of Jesus and know the history of the Church. So we are trying something new. I gave each child their own Book of Mormon stories, you know the ones with the pictures that covers all the stories in the Book of Mormon but makes it easy for kids to follow along and understand. We still try and read the actual scriptures that go along so they still are hearing the words from the scriptures but we have been going strong and I think the kids are soaking in a lot more. Its not as long and so I know this is a goal that we can set and the kids can see us accomplish which is also so very important for them to have the satisfaction of setting a goal and seeing it through.
I think everyone came up with some good achievable goals. This year we just need to check in on our goals throughout the year and create steps and action plans to achieving them.
Tj and I went to the special Stake conference we had about a month or so ago where we were counseled to pray with our spouse. Its sad that in the 11 years TJ and I have been married we have only prayed together a handful of times. Its something I knew we should have been doing but it has never happened or been a habit for us. We came home that evening and Tj was the one who grabbed me and said lets say our prayers. We take turns everynight and honestly it only took one prayer and just like that I feel so much closer to TJ. And I always have felt really close to him but it is just so amazing what adding in God can do. My prayers have become more sincere, more thoughtful just by praying aloud with my husband. It feels so great to be praying for each other and for the kids together instead of just individually. I wish we would have been doing this since the day we got married but I am glad we are finally starting.
As for myself, my big thing I want to work on is being aware. Noticing others. Looking for ways to serve others. There are ALWAYS opportunities to help others and lend out kindness, big or small.
Heres to a new year!
